a mixed victory

we are talking about an historic moment right now in the democratic party, a moment in which an african-american or a woman will shortly receive the democratic nomination for the presidency. as such, i find it disturbing that obama's ticket rests somewhat on "changing the game", getting around the establishment instead of working through it. it dilutes the significance of this moment in history, for us as a country and the point to which we've (almost) gotten. it's a remarkable coincidence that just when we're ready to elect a woman or minority candidate, the rules are being changed.

i think this issue is part of why a lot of the "good old boys" hate hillary clinton. because they weren't asked to bend the rules for her. and can't secretly remind themselves that she didn't *really* beat them. the idea of obama winning is far less threatening to the ego of the establishment.
